Coronavirus LIVE Updates: Covid-19 Cases Cross 60 Lakh-Mark In India

New Delhi: 

More than 82,000 new Covid cases were reported across India in the past 24 hours, government data showed on Sunday, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the country past the 60 lakh-mark. 

Over 1,000 deaths were also recorded in the past 24 hours, pushing the total number of deaths recorded since the pandemic began past 95,000. 

The number of recoveries reported in the past 24 hours is around 74,893, taking the total number of people who have fought off the virus past 50 lakh. 

India is the second worst-affected country by the Covid pandemic, second only to the United States in the total number of active cases.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today hailed the contribution of COVID-19 warriors in the fight against the pandemic, saying that their role is unprecedented in the history of humanity, reported news agency ANI. Attending a programme to honour COVID-19 warriors in Bhopal, he said, "In their efforts to save lives, several doctors lost their lives, paramedical staff got infected, some of whom sacrificed their lives in the line of duty as also some policemen. I join my hands before you and thank you for services to humanity, which are unprecedented. "These corona warriors are saving lives for the last six months. Those who save lives can be compared to God. It is because of them that we are able to fight against the pandemic. The only vaccine for COVID-19 is the mask," he added.

Coronavirus News: Uttar Pradesh Reports 58 More COVID-19 Deaths, 3,838 Fresh Cases In 24 Hours
Uttar Pradesh's COVID-19 death count rose to 5,652 today with 58 more fatalities, while the infection tally reached 3,90,875 after 3,838 people tested positive for the disease, an official said, reported news agency PTI. Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad, while briefing reporters, said 5,382 patients have been discharged after recovering from the infection. So far, 3,31,270 COVID-19 patients have been cured and the recovery rate stands at 84.75 per cent, he said. The number of active cases in the state stands at 53,953, Mr Prasad said, adding that over 1.51 lakh tests were conducted in the state.

Coronavirus News: Maharashtra Frames SOPs For Reopening Restaurants, Says Uddhav Thackeray
With the present lockdown in Maharashtra coming to end on September 30, the state government has framed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for reopening restaurants and a decision will be taken once these guidelines are finalised, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said today, reported news agency PTI. The chief minister interacted with representatives of associations of restaurateurs from Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad and Nagpur via video conferencing, an official statement said. "The state government has framed SOPs for reopening restaurants and those have been sent to the people concerned. A decision about reopening restaurants will be taken once these (SOPs) are finalised," the statement quoted Mr Thackeray as saying.
