New Delhi: More than 84 per cent of the new deaths of coronavirus reported in the country in the last 24 hours were concentrated in just 10 states and Union Territories, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday. As per the official data, Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state in the country in terms of both new cases as well as deaths.

In its latest bulletin on COVID-19, the Health Ministry confirmed that 88,600 new cases of coronavirus were reported in the last 24 hours. More than 77 per cent of these cases were reported in 10 states and union territories alone.

Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state having reported over 20,000 new cases, followed by Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh with more than 8,000 and 7,000 cases, respectively.

The ministry also announced that 1,124 virus-related deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours and 10 states and UTs account for 84 per cent of these deaths.

Once again, Maharashtra accounted for the maximum casualties at 430 while Karnataka and Tamil Nadu followed closely with 86 and 85 deaths, respectively.

Talking about the COVID-19 recoveries, the Health Ministry stated that 92,043 new recoveries have been reported in the last 24 hours in the country. 76 per cent of the new recovered cases were found in 10 states and UTs.

Maharashtra has alone contributed more than 23,000 recoveries followed by Andhra Pradesh with more than 9,000 recoveries, added the ministry.
