Coronavirus LIVE Updates: COVID-19 Cases Cross 66 Lakh-Mark In India

India has logged 66,23,815 coronavirus cases so far with 74,442 new infections. 903 deaths in the last 24 hours have pushed the total death count to 1,02,685. 76,737 patients have recovered from the infection in the country in the last 24 hours. With 55,86,703 people in the country having recovered since the beginning of the pandemic, the overall recovery rate is 84.3 per cent. India is the second worst-hit country in the world by the pandemic after the United States. The country reported its first case on January 30.

Maharashtra, India's worst COVID-19-affected state, added 12,548 new cases, with the total number of infected people reaching 14.43 lakh. Over 4 lakh restaurants, bars, and hotels in Maharashtra will reopen today after a gap of six months as part of the fifth phase of easing COVID-19 restrictions, called Unlock 5.

COVID-19: 5,042 cases in Kerala, 23 more deaths

Kerala reported 5,042 COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the infection count to 2,33,928, while 23 more deaths pushed the toll to 859.
 
The active cases touched 84,873, while 4,630 recoveries today took the total number of people discharged to 1,49,111, Health minister K K Shailaja said.
 
Ernakulam accounted for the highest number of cases--705, followed by Thiruvananthapuram 700, Kozhikode 641 and Malappuram 606.
 

Of the positive cases, 29 had come from abroad and 102 from other states while 43338 were infected through contacts, she said in a release.

 
As many as 110 health workers were among those infected.
 
At least 2,58,446 people are under observation in various districts, including 30,504 in various hospitals.
 

So far, 31,98,423 samples have been sent for testing.

COVID-19: 3,064 new cases in Uttar Pradesh
A total of 3,064 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, taking the total number active cases to 45,024 in the state, a government official said.

In a press conference, Uttar Pradesh Principal Health Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad informed that as many as 4,269 people were discharged after being recovered from the virus.

"In the last 24 hours, 3,064 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the state. Active cases stand at 45,024 while 3,66,321 people have been discharged - out of which 4,269 were discharged in the last 24 hours,"Mr  Prasad said.

With a spike of 74,442 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, India's coronavirus tally crossed the 66-lakh mark on Monday, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed.

COVID-19: Recovery rate of patients rises to 93.55% in Bihar
The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in Bihar jumped to 93.55 per cent on Monday, while 907 fresh cases pushed the tally to 1,88,857, a health department bulletin said.

Bihar reported nine fresh casualties from coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from COVID to 924.

The number of tests of the samples has been below one lakh mark daily for the past two to three days.

A total of 87,769 samples were examined in the past 24 hours, while over 77.89 lakh samples have been tested across Bihar so far, the bulletin said.

The recovery rate of COVID patients in Bihar has been more than 93 per cent for the past couple of days and its showing marginal hike from that position daily.

At least 1565 people were cured of the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 1,76,674, the bulletin said.

COVID-19: 276 cases, 5 deaths, 290 discharged in Gujarat's Surat
Surat's tally of coronavirus positive cases rose to 29,595 with 276 new cases recorded on Monday, the highest for any area in the state, while five deaths increased the count to 956, an official said.

Of the new cases, 172 were in city limits, which also accounted for 175 of the 290 people who were discharged during the day, he added.

So far, 20,280 people have been discharged within city limits, giving it a recovery rate of 90.6 per cent.

Surat Municipal Corporation officials said 597 paan shop owners were subjected to coronavirus tests, and five of the reports returned positive.

"Rs 80,900 was collected in fines in a single day from people not wearing masks and violating social distancing norms," he said.

The SMC said 30,052 people are quarantined while 8,73,534 people have been surveyed in areas from where new cases have been reported.

COVID-19: Nagaland registers 42 new cases, one more death

Nagaland's COVID-19 caseload rose  to 6,594 on Monday as 42 more people tested positive for the infection, while one more death raised the count to 23, Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said.
 

Dimapur recorded 30 new cases, followed by Mon at 8 and Kohima at 4, he said.
Altogether 113 patients were cured of the disease on

 
Monday, taking the total number of recoveries to 5,371, the minister said.
 
At present, the recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in the state is 81.45 per cent.
 
Currently, the northeastern state has 1,149 active cases, additional director of health department Dr Denis Hangsing said in the COVID-19 bulletin.
 
At least, 51 COVID-19 patients have migrated to other states, he said.

COVID-19: Bengal reports 3,348 new cases, 61 fatalities
The COVID-19 count in West Bengal rose to 5,255 on Monday after 61 more people succumbed to the disease, the health department said in its bulletin.

At least 3,348 fresh infections were reported in the state, which pushed the tally to 2,73,679.

As many as 3,009 people have recovered from the disease since Sunday, taking the discharge rate in West Bengal to 87.95 per cent, the bulletin said.

COVID-19: Maharashtra's Nashik sees 907 cases, 14 deaths; 1,101 discharged
Nashik district added 907 COVID-19 cases to its tally on Monday, even as 14 people succumbed to the infection and 1,101 were discharged post recovery, an official said.
 
The caseload in the district is 81,023, including 1,451 deaths, while the total number of people who have recovered stood at 70,272, he said.

COVID-19: In 7 months, Noida's tally went from 1 to 13,916
Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar registered 186 new COVID-19 patients that pushed its infection tally to 13,916 on Monday, seven months since the district recorded its first case of coronavirus, official data showed.

The number of active cases rose to 1,345 from 1,333 on Sunday as 173 more patients got discharged, according to the data released by the Uttar Pradesh Health Department for a 24-hour period.

The district has so far recorded 12,515 recoveries, seventh highest in the state, according to the data.

As per official figures on Sunday, the recovery rate of patients rose to 89.93 per cent from 89.88 per cent on Sunday, while the mortality rate stood at 0.40 per cent. There were 45,024 active cases across Uttar Pradesh on Monday.

COVID-19: 632 Fresh cases, 10 deaths reported in a day in J&K
Jammu and Kashmir recorded 632 fresh cases and 10 more fatalities in a day which took the caseload to 79,738 and death toll to 1,252 on Monday, officials said.
 
Of the new cases, 346 were reported from Jammu region and 286 from the Kashmir Valley, they said.
 
Jammu district reported the highest number of 173 new cases, followed by 119 in Srinagar district, the officials said.

COVID-19: Gujarat records 1,327 new cases, 1,405 recoveries
The coronavirus tally in Gujarat rose to 1,44,027 with the addition of 1,327 new cases on Monday, the state health department said.
 
The death count increased to 3,512 with 13 more patients succumbing to the viral infection, it said.
 
At the same time, 1,405 COVID-19 patients were discharged on Monday, taking the number of recovered cases to 1,23,770, the health department said.
 
The state has achieved a recovery rate of 85.94 per cent, the department said in a release.
 
A total of 57,513 tests were conducted in the state for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, at a rate of 884.82 tests per day per million population, pushing the number of samples tested so far to 47,02,776, the release said.
